Happy 4th of July to all our American readers! l hope you’re winding down the week and looking forward to some well-earned rest (or at least a slower inbox). As summer rolls on, we’re seeing AI show up in more tangible, surprising ways from digital design tools to real-world retail shifts.
The more time goes on, the clearer it becomes: AI isn’t just smart, it’s becoming hands-on. It’s showing up in how we create, shop, and even shape physical products bringing more people into the process, not pushing them out.
In this week’s issue, Wedgwood and XXII launched a generative AI platform inviting the public to design vases using its historic Jasperware forms one winning entry will be made into a real piece and shown at the V&A. One of my favorite reads this week was Zoe Scaman’s roundup on everything she learnt on her immersion trip to Silicon Valley- we’ve covered all the main points. In other news, beauty giants like L’Oréal and Estée Lauder are going all in on GenAI across R&D and content, McLaren partners with Sonic the Hedgehog in a nostalgia-fueled move, and TikTok continues to change how luxury is discovered less billboard, more algorithm.
