Although most would call me a technophile, I was sad and disappointed to see humanoid robots on the runway at Vogue World in Milan yesterday, in what felt like a desperate, tone deaf attempt to bridge tech and innovation into the world of fashion. There have been far more tasteful and artistic ways we have seen robots on runways in the past- including Boston Dynamics’ infamous robot dogs at Coperni, model Shalom Harlow being spray-painted at McQueen’s show, and Schiaparelli’s couture show “robot baby”.
In a world moving at breakneck speed, as we question the very existence of humanity, the responsibility for keeping culture, creativity, and artisanal integrity alive lies with media distribution networks as much as with the individuals who decide to move them forward. Julian Issa, host of the Beyond Tomorrow podcast, shared an interesting conversation on the topic in his recent episode with Dr Roman Yampolski.
And finally, for something inspiring on bridging culture into new frontiers of tech and space, I recommend spending 3 minutes watching this brilliant film, “Space Wonders”, which was submitted for the Future Vision XPrize.
This is the future we should all be backing, sharing, and investing in.
